Crisis

I kind of feel a little bit silly writing this post, but I honestly feel like I am having a mini mid-twenties crisis. Who does that? I kind of feel like my life is in this holding pattern. I am the type of person who needs a project or something to be working on or towards. I don't really do well with having long breaks. I know that seems strange, but I can't really describe it. Like I told DH, after I graduated from nursing school, I got married, then went back for a master's degree, then thought I would be a mom. It has been progressive, I have been able to have some control over it, and I have known what to expect. Little did I know that it would take so long for that next step to happen.

I just feel restless. I find myself daydreaming about DH and me finding new jobs and moving across the country. I even went so far as to look at houses in South Carolina today while I was at work. I know that is VERY extreme...that is why it is just a daydream. But I feel like I need to do SOMETHING. I need SOMETHING on the horizon to look forward to. And, I guess you could argue that I kind of do - we are about halfway finished with all of our paperwork, so maybe we will have the adoption of our baby to look forward to, but that could take a long time. I told DH that maybe I just need to take a vacation (this time without the extended family), but I don't think that is really in the cards right now. We are saving up all of our money to pay for adoption expenses, so I have a hard time justifying spending our savings to take a vacation.

I just feel like I am in a rut. I need to find something to spice things up, but I don't know what. Any suggestions?

  1. I completely understand how you are feeling. I have learned to take a step back and enjoy some of the simplier things in life.

Are you looking for something long-term or short-term to preoccupy you ?

Maybe take a mini-vacation so to speak in your area. Go to all the touristy places or maybe start a new recreational hobby !

  2. If a vacation isn't an optioni, what about a day at the spa? I've never done that, but it sounds wonderful. Or even a road trip to a fancy restaurant?

I cannot stand to just "be" I have to have something to look forward to. I'm constantly dreaming of moving elsewhere and looking at houses!

  4. I'm kind of feeling the same way right now. I have some stuff going on but I'm really ready for a big change. I hope that you can find something that fills that needs even if it's just temporary!

  5. This doesn't sound crazy at ALL. When I turned 25 I completely had a "quarter-life" crisis! And I tend to have a mini-crisis every couple of months where I just get restless and feel like I need to get out of town and shake things up a bit! DO IT! Get outta town or go to a new restaurant or plan a "stay-cation" at home with the hubs where you don't leave the house ALL weekend! You will feel better!

  6. I vote for a day spent doing something fun in the area. Do you like to hike or spend time outdoors? DH and I will often visit one of the national parks in the area just to see a bit of nature and talk about things. We find it quite refreshing.

I'll have to get caught up on your blog. DH and I are also in the adoption process. I'd love to be one of those women who also magically gets pregnant after deciding to adopt, but alas I doubt I ever will be.

    Take care.

  7. I'm right there with you. I've been feeling kind of lost lately......not sure what the future holds. I think a vacation would be a great escape even if it's just a short weekend trip. Sometimes we just need something to look forward to.

  8. Been there, done that. Limbo is a horrible state to be in (here's a post I wrote about it last year: http://fertilityfoibles.blogspot.com/2009/06/tired-of-being-in-limbo.html

I agree that shaking things up can definitely be a good distraction. In an attempt to break our infertility routine, we moved to China last year! Now that's a bit extreme. One way to start is to just do something that's just for you. It can be as wild as skydiving or as easy as a manicure with girlfriends. Maybe you want to take a continuing ed class or something. I have found that when I have a goal, or something constructive to do, it has helped tremendously.

    Hang in there.

  9. Do a mini vacation - something close to where you live. Do you camp? Pitch a tent at a local camp ground and make your food over the fire, read in the sunshine and fish in the rivers/lakes. Just getting away from technology can be a total recharge!

  10. I know exactly what you mean sweetie and I am experiencing this right now. It's like I got so used to the fact I wouldn't ever get pregnant and now I'm still not sure I can handle IVF.
I would definitely go with enjoying the simpler things-reading a book/series you always wanted to, making lots of
time for fitness and/or learning a new skill. This is all stuff I'm doing at the mo. Thinking of you!
